About: My name is Wagner Pinto, I was born in south of Brazil in a city called “Porto Alegre”. Since I was young my imaginary was supply by metaphysical and religious things. My childhood made me very creative by necessity and it was my most important lesson. The beginning of my career was as an art director and 5 years ago I started to dedicate full time to my artwork. My artwork now is developed through mixed and threatening forms of drawing and painting. My research is based on elements and symbols of umbanda, candomblé, indigenous graphics, religious dressing, alchemycal elements and folklore forest. These are translated through my pictorial vocabulary in the form of layers of lines, profusion of intense and contrasting colors, abstract symbols and graphs. My investigative search has as objective creation of unknown pictures and the gestalt of shapes and colors. My influences go of Hundertwasser, Cy Twombly, DuBuffet, Basquiat until Franz Ackerman, Beatriz Milhazes, Leonilson and new generation artists such Bruno 9Li, Carlos Dias and Stephan Doitschinoff. Currently I’m living and working between São Paulo and Porto Alegre, were I graduated myself at “Universidade Auto-indicada por Entidades Livres”. I belong to the colective Upgrade do Macaco created at Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul.
