What is Lastplak and how did it all started?
We started out as a sticker plaque in 2000  with only four guys and ended up as a 11 man strong collective with skills in graffiti, stencil art, screen printing, canvas painting, giving workshops, illustation and graphic design, organising party’s and generally having fun in everything we do. Members in order of joining are: the founder and inventor of the name Lastplak; Boortorrie, our own personal Wolverine; ACAB, mr. Tomek, from birds to larvae to ghosts; Oles, international tit monster; OE (quit painting and moved to Berlin), flying pink heads; OX-Alien, mr. black and white and sometimes red; Yen, heavy metal man; BA, paint addict and bike crazy; Pinwin, funk master Grrt, always in eehhh…; Sake, contacts superhero’s; May-B and last but not least, our graff legend: Ces53.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
That is different for each member, we inspire each other, watch movies, visit museums and art shows, read cartoons, travel, party, meet new people and have an open mind to all types of visual communication.

What tools do you use?
We use everything that leaves a mark on a surface, but our favourite tools are spraypaint, posca’s and the always delicious Lascaux acrylic paint. The strangest thing we made was an ice carving for a graduation project, we had to use screw drivers and chissels to carve our work in different couloured layers of ice.

Tell us something about the handmade OX-Alien dolls
Ox-Alien: After painting a lot of ox-aliens on walls, canvas and stickers my girlfriend decided to give the ox-alien more life. She managed to get hold of an old sewing machine of her grandmother, and after many evenings of drawing and try outs it finally worked out. Even though the ox alien looks very evil, as a lovely pink plush he’s very adorable!

Where have you been and where do you still wanna go?
We have been in so  many places, but the ones we remember best are Vienna, Los Angeles, St. Petersburg, Damascus and Corfu. In Holland we always try to paint in as many cities possible, of of wich is our annual trip to Maastricht. Our list of wishes is also different for each member, but high on the list are still Tokyo and anywhere in Australia. Besides geographical locations we would love to paint a big jumbo jet plane, the inside of a swimming pool and many more group canvasses.

Because most of you got a graffiti background, don’t you got any problems with authority while painting for Lastplak?
We don’t have problems with them, but sometimes have troubles with us. We always try to stay cool and sort things out the Lastplak way: a big smile and a good story. So far we have never been arrested or fined, even though sometimes it came very close!

Any cool upcoming events?
We hope to attend some of the festivals this summer and do bit of live painting there. For the rest we hope to have a few shows in Holland and abroad and in august we’ll be on Oprah to tell girls how to live with a Lastplakker!
